And I felt all creamed on in white
Elizabeth Hurley at the ARK 10th Anniversary Gala
Liz Hurley was also in attendance at the arms of Patrick Cox, opting for a sexier look in a one sleeved Roberto Cavalli gown with embellished open shoulder and incredibly high thigh split that few would have dared to wear. Then again, that split is nothing compared to her unforgettable Versace dress. Paired with jaw dropping Forevermark earrings, platinum sandals and silver clutch, Liz does look great but I know that I would have probably appreciated this more had I not seen Kate’s homerun first.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, at the ARK 10th Anniversary Gala
Kate was all smiles and breath-taking at the ARK anniversary gala in London last night. I literally gasped when I saw her picture which is no small feat considering how long it took to load with my amazingly slow internet connection which effectively killed all of the surprise effect, but still, I gasped. Her irridescent rose sequinned dress embellished with Swarovski crystals was picked from the Spring 2011 collection of english designer Jenny Packham and it was a match made in heaven. It also makes me wonder if Kate or her stylists have been watching Gossip Girl lately since the dress was also worn by Blair Waldorf for her own Princess moment. I know some people think that Kate should have done more with her hair but her whole look is so effortlessly glamorous, almost like she simple slipped on the dress, that I think it works in this case. Plus, if I had such gorgeous locks I’d also showcase them as much as possible. LK Bennet shoes complete her look.

Lady Gaga
And last, the “Fashion Icon” of the year. In all honesty, I did like some of her looks from back when she first started (well mostly the Armani dress from the Grammy’s) and then she lost me when she started dressing more for shock value (inser list of all the ridiculous outfits that came after, special mention to the meat dress and that goddamn egg). But at the CFDA awards she toned down the crazy to a look that I could appreciate. I do like the general idea of her custom Mulger gown despite the fact that the little material covering her boobs is made to look as if they were about to shoot out spikes and that taking a step in those 24-inch heelless shoes probably requires a whole other insurance plan. And then of course she had to start stripping over the course of the night before ending up in little more than strategically placed patches and a spiked thong. Whatever, I’ll gladly be happy for her award if all this ‘expression’ is truly simply her expressing herself and not simply a way to shock people into paying attention. Congrats to Gaga, fashion icon of 11’

Anna Wintour
Sometimes I don’t get how the woman who basically owns the fashion world seems to only own one pair of shoes. And then of course I’m reminded that you can’t keep the elitist appeal by wearing every designer on the block, even though that’d be the fun part of the job to me. This time around she paired her trusted Manolo’s with a look from Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2011 collection which she wore as is. I’m not a fan of the huge pockets on the green embroidered skirt but overall, its the kind of look you’d expect the editor to wear.

Emmanuelle Chriqui
Now I really do not get that little afterthought of toilet paper train. It seems almost like Emmanuelle desperately wanted to wear that mini (which is really quite short specially considering that the top should actually be pulled up a bit more lest the girls escape) but knew it wouldn’t cut it so simply chose to add a ‘train’ to make it pass as a gown. Well at least she was partly right. No one can deny that she looks amazing in her yellow David Meister dress and she really should get extra points for pairing it with those exquisite embellished purple Manolo sandals but its just not what I’d expect for a fashion event because really, minus the train, its just a cute dress.

The Olsen Twins
As per their habit, the two seemed determine to appear even smaller than they are at the CDFA awards. Mary-Kate paired her black The Row skirt with a golden Chanel jacket that could have fit both her and Ashley but despite it being amazingly over-sized, I find myself kind of liking it which I think is in large part because of her choice of footwear. I love her simple Louis Vuitton gold strappy sandals, bringing this look together effortlessly. The same can’t be said about Ashley who managed to find the second grandma-ish shoes of the night (Manolo’s) to go with her otherwise cute custom The Row dress. Both accesserized with Cartier jewellery but the items that really caught my attention was their bags from The Row Fall 2011 collection. As good business women, the two seemed to have fashioned their whole outfits around them.

Amber Heard
Amber’s Cynthia Rowley dress isn’t bad per say, if it was slightly shorter with a pencil skirt it would be great and the belt could be worked with but I just can’t get over those shoes. I can’t believe they actually make mustard-coloured velvet shoes these days. They look so grandma-ish that its hard to understand how someone like Amber Heard, the quintessential Scream Queen, would choose to wear them…unless she was hoping to elicite such a scream from us. All this said, her hair and makeup is amazing and she gets extra points for matching her lips with her mani. This outfit really has so much potential, I’d advise to simply look at the picture from the hips and up, just ignore anything lower.

Liv Tyler
Liv was a burst of colour on the purple carpet in her beautiful silk Proenza Schouler Fall 2011 dress. She chose to accesserize it with the runway belt but opted out of the shoes, instead sporting a heavier pair of sandals but still manages to make it work with her PS-11 black clutch, choosing modern over delicate. I love the pattern and the fold of the dress although the hair isn’t doing much for me, it looks so sad compared to the rest of the outfit.

Chloe Sevigny
Chloe’s look, head to toe Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony, could have probably grown on me over time had it not been for the ruffles on the top. Her white cotton eyelet skirt is cute enough and the leather halter would have edged it up enough for me to like, and Chloe to wear it, but I cannot stand the addition of those ruffles. It kind of looks like an afterthought and make the outfit seem way too busy. I could have even accepted the shoes if the top was lighter but right now, it just adds to the confusion to me.

Marcia Cross
Marcia also went the way of the jumpsuit for the event by choosing to sport a haltered, blue sequinned one by Pamella Roland. True, it does show off her amazing figure (although her boobs seem to be a tiny bit squashed in there) and yes, her hair has never looked better but yet I can’t help but feel that this might have worked if it was for another event…or maybe an ABBA video?
